Giovedì Santo 58

The procession of “Holy Thursday”:
the tunic and black hood are nothing more than the shame and awareness of human misery.
In Abruzzo almost all processions involving hooded men.

In the middle of this procession there is another hooded man, barefoot, carrying the cross on his shoulders: he remember Simon of Cyrene (Il Cireneo), the person compelled by the Romans to carry the cross of Jesus.

It may seem macabre, but it is truly one of the few genuinely touching procession of the Holy Week in Lanciano.
